M.G.P.S. in the race for performance (France)
M.G.P.S. provides technology intelligence and information system development to INTRAMAR and EUROFOS, two freight handling companies working on the ports of Marseilles and Fos sur Mer which are managed by the PAM (Port Autonome de Marseille – Port of Marseilles Authority).
With major plans to extend the container capacities of these port facilities currently in the pipeline, particularly the FOS 2XL project, these companies required a computer system that would measure up.
After container / slot identification and tracking initially provided by Narrow Band coupled with DGPS satellite data, other solutions are emerging, now based on WiFi Broadband (2.4 GHz frequency band at the very high speed standard - 802.11b/g).
This improvement in mobile computing is of particular interest in two strategic areas:
- Security, and particularly conformity of ships and port facilities with the international standard (ISPS),
- Better mobile information system performance, bringing greater “intelligence” in terms of IT tools on board the straddle-carriers.
As an industrial partner, Psion Teklogix has been supporting these developments from the outset.
